CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
CalDesal invites abstract submissions for the 2027 CalDesal Annual Conference, bringing together water agencies, regulators, policymakers, researchers, project developers, investors, and industry leaders to explore the role of ocean and brackish water desalination in California’s water future.

The Conversation We Need
Where does ocean and brackish water desalination create the greatest value for California—and what will it take to turn viable projects into reliable water supplies?

A central challenge for this year’s conference is: What would have to be true for a water agency, regulator, developer, and investor to move forward with a $1 billion California desalination project?

We invite submissions that bring credible evidence, practical lessons, and candid perspectives to this conversation—including the conditions for a responsible yes or a well-supported no.

Abstracts are encouraged in the following areas:

- Permitting, Regulation, and Two-Way Learning

Other timely topics that advance these discussions are also welcome.

What Makes a Strong Abstract?
Strong submissions should identify the question the presentation will address, the evidence or experience it will bring, what California should learn, and the decision or action those findings could support.

Submissions should educate and support discussion rather than serve as product or company promotions. Perspectives from regulators, water agencies, researchers, environmental and community representatives, industry practitioners, and investors are encouraged.

Abstracts are limited to 300 words. Presentation and poster submissions are welcome.

Submissions Deadline: December 4, 2026.
